P3D digital stereo viewing
There's been a lot of discussion of digital photography vs. traditional
"film" photography. Currently I shoot MF transparencies and use a viewer
with fluorescent backlight for my stereo pairs. How would one accomplish the
same thing with digital? I would guess a viewer with left and right LCDs
capable of the same intensity and resolution of my current MF viewer.
Right now I am running 1600x1200 on my 21" monitor at work. I would estimate
that a resolution at least this good would need to be shrunk down to
approximately 6x6 cm and not weight the 50+ pounds a CRT monitor in order
for a digital viewer to compete with my current viewer.
Perhaps we'll be there someday, but are color LCDs capable of this? How else
would one view digital stereo so it's as good as viewing transpaerencies
through a back-lit viewer?
