I've always thought the word "stereopticon" has an Edwardian feel to it.

" Jeeves, I will be in the parlor looking through the stereopticon".

Stereopticon has an ornate or decorative feeling to it. Practical items
often had decorative embellishments around the turn of the century.

Stereoscope sounds more like a scientific instrument.

Of course there's the graphoscope which was an ornate devise for viewing
stereoviews and carte de viste's.

Which brings up the discussion: Which is correct? Stereo card,
stereocard or stereoview.
I guess stereoview can refer to cards and transparencies. I notice on
eBay cards are usually referred to as stereoviews. I think that may be
the accepted "search" term.
