Mark Dottle writes, in part:

<< ...why would I pay $4.50 to waste an unexposed
roll of film to test the lab,>>

I use outdated film. Often free, never expensive, and you never have to test
a lab more than once....

<<... knowing the film will be scratched. >>

Cynic.

<< pointing out the scratches to the lab, the lab will dismiss your
 disgruntled comments. >>

Then they've lost another customer, permanently.

<< They will believe you are upset about the blank
 roll, >>

In my experience, people believe what they want to believe, regardless of the
facts.

<<. What is there to gain?? >>

Knowledge. And we all know that knowledge is power, and that power corrupts,
and that absolute power corrupts absolutely.....

ps. that test is not mine. it was devised by one of my clients who was
having trouble with scratched film. the scratches were so fine that they did
not show on any prints but were always present when the negs were scanned,
costing hours of post-production time to remove.
