Theoretically it may work. But you would need to compensate for the
close-up effect by adding a negative lens.
I have a Stitz beamsplitter which is on an adjustable bracket instead of
a screw-on mount. I am never sure how far the lens should be set into
the rear of the splitter, but there is about 10mm of adjustment.
Also adding or removing filters on the screw-on type would produce about
a 5mm change per filter.
