Sounds like you've never used a Realist??? :-)

(BobH -or a search in the archives- will tell you why this
system leads to sharper pictures via steadier camera holding)

Strangely enough, one of the Jess Powell's stereo camera repair
videos are about the Tower!  (List is coming up in sell-3d)  So
if you have a non-working Tower and you like it as much Steven,
consider getting the video and repairing it yourself (if you
trust yourself with camera repairs, of course!)
