Too much light is not a problem. You can always reduce the LED light
output by reducing the current to the LEDs. Too little light or too much
battery drain is the problem with tungsten and halogen and flourescent
sources. LEDs simply allow you to waste little electrical power and
little or no optical power.
Filament type lamps convert over 90% of the electrical power into IR
energy which cannot be seen. A great waste. The less than 10% electrical
power that becomes light is radiated in all directions. Usually less
than 20% of that can be captured and directed toward the slide.
LEDs convert most of the electrical power to visible light. And that
light is well directed so most of it can be used to illuminate the
slide. Very little waste so your battery will last much longer. 50 to
500 times as long as filament type sources.
