P3D Da-Lite silver screens

I was quite excited to read Larry Haines recent post about new larger (than
70 X 70) lenticular screens. I couldn't wait and wrote to the company
immediately. The response really shocked me. Cindy Cummings says such a
screen WAS available, but was discontinued early this year!!! Unbelievable.
My post that follows is self explanatory.
Cindy,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I am mystified by the information however. A
gentleman on the P3D mailing list just reported that he was told by Da-Lite
staffperson that a "new" lenticular screen was now available with the
lenticular ribs running both directions, and that Dalite would specially
make a screen wider than 70 x 70. Here is the actual post:
"I decided to ask Daylite if they would, as a special,
make some of their lenticular material in something wider than 70".
Having spoken several times to them (usually a lady who probably did not
know everything), I was totally unprepared for their answer. The man I
spoke to told me that they could in fact special make the wider
lenticular screens I was looking for. He then told me the new
lenticular material comes with the lines in *both* directions. That
surprised me even more. I asked if they recommended the new
two-direction lenticular material for stereo projection and he replied
that it was suitable. He is sending me a one foot square sample. I
will try it out and report on what I perceive are the results. It seems
to me that lines in both directions might cause depolarization, but the
man said no. It also seems to me that lines in both directions would
limit the brightness somewhat, but the man told me the Gain of 2.5 and
viewing angle of 40 degrees is the same as with their previously
advertised "Super Wonder-lit" lenticular material. If this is indeed
true, and the prices, turn out to be reasonable, then I suspect others
might interested."
As you can read, this sounds like something now available. The other thing
that perplexes me is that I had no knowledge of the "Polarized Cosmopolitan"
that you refer to, although I have made numerous inquiries about lenticular
material as recently as 1 and 1/2 years ago. Why didn't the sales staff I
spoke to know of this (rhetorical question)? If a larger screen suitable for
polarized projection really was available and is now gone I and many many
other stereo enthusiasts will be extremely discouraged. Any light you can
shed on this mysterey will be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully yours,
Mark Blum

Mark,
Thank you for your inquiry! Sorry, but we no longer sell the screen
that has the silver lenticular quality which was called the Polarized
Cosmopolitan-we discontinued at the first of 1999. The only fabric we
still sell for the 3-D effect is the Super Wonder-lite fabric but as
you know is limited in size up to 70". Also, we don't have pricing
on the web site. If you'd like- I can mail you out a full line
cataogl with retail pricing and also refer to some dealers in your
area you can purchase from- Let me know if you're interested by
e-mailing back with your address info. & phone area code #.

I'll keep the list notified of developments, and I expect that Larry will do
the same.
