Plus the fact that it implies the data is in a more natural state for 3D
display beforehand. The only difference as far as the card is concerned is
that with a normal 2D display it has one viewpoint to calculate, and with a
stereo display it has two.

The data is calculated and stored in the computer in 3D, but even with a
stereo display it's only viewed in stereo. Which isn't really the same as
3D.
