P3D eBay reserves

I know  there is often concern over hidden reserves on eBay. I believe
they are necessary. I often see items which have no reserve, but have a
starting bid equal to what the seller believes is a fair value. Many
times those items receive no bids, even though the starting bid is fair.
Bidders have a hard time committing to a purchase. On the other hand,
low starting bids creates a pool of bidders, all vying for the lead.
Several times I have been the high bidder and have not reached the
reserve, but have worked out a purchase price with the seller. At least
twice I have paid less than my actual max bid price, since they do not
know your bid. Sellers need a way to protect there purchase. I recently
put up for sell, a boxed set of U&U Egypt cards with book and maps.
Earlier the set with no book or maps sold for $600. Then the book and
maps alone sold for $200. I placed my set on eBay with a reserve of
$600. The bidding only went to $300. I will relist later and hope that
interested parties are looking.
