I bid quite extensively on ebay and I know for a fact that if you are the 
only bidder and you bid over a reserve price then your bid will show up as 
the reserve price until someone else over bids the reserve price.  If you 
were bidding on an item that had a reserve of $100. with bidding increments 
of say $10. and you bid $150. then you would be the high bidder at $100.  If 
someone else bids $110.  then you would become the high bidder for $120.  
This would keep occurring until you were out bid.  If some else bids $150.  
then you would be the high bidder for $150. since you were the first $150. 
bid.  But if someone bid $151.  Then they would be the high bidder and the 
next minimum bidding increment would be $161.  Also, If you bid the same 
$150. bid and no one else bid, you would win the auction for $100. and be 
able to buy the item for $100. and not for the higer amount you bid.
