did you ever try projection? I'd never try to cut a beam-splitter slide and
mount it in separate 2"x2" frames, nor in a "Nimslo format" Realist-type
frame, but I project whole 35mm slides throught a Stitz splitter with
adjustable mirrors.
It just needs a single projector, vertical alignement is easy & fast (one
just has to rotate the splitter), so is horizontal matching (just turn the
ring for focal-lenghts).
May be the trapezoid "keystone" effect of both devices compensate, but
actually keystoning is not a problem for me.
I agree beam splitters aren't the best way to shoot stereo pairs, but
they're the easier & faster way for lazy potographers like me. Splitters
take little room, so one hasn't to choose between a reflex camera or some 3d
equipment to carry around when travelling or whenever he wants to go around
without carrying a big bag.
