A few summary lines seems OK, but I rather not see more lengthy
quotes of stuff which is accessible to most, and I dislike especially
quoting the content of entire P3d postings, like I did above :-).
And I quoted only the content, even worse is quoting the header and
footer as well, like Mary Ann Sell did in P3d 3689.
(No offense meant, dear Mary Ann, your post only happens to be the
last example :-)).
Sometimes even nested quotations occur, with >>>>, and the subject
than often is non-informative like "Re: PHOTO-3D digest ....".
I suppose most people can store a few days of P3d Digests.
Recently I have pointed to the WEB sources were some older P3d
postings are stored to avoid quoting too much of Bruce Springsteens
writings :-)
On the other hand I have used lengthy quotes from a book by Bela
Julesz (P3d 3669, 18 Jan 2000) because it probably will not easily
be found outside university libraries, especially not in Bangladesh.
As Hans Middendorp does get email, I rather would like him (and
others with the same problem) to ask the writers on P3d to send him
the texts of the quoted WEB pages which interest him by email, than
to see lengthy quotes here. I would send them, if asked.
Eventually original pages send by email can be viewed off-line
with a small browser, I use Andante sometimes (less than 1 MB,
zipped 432 kB). Alternatively a program which strips html tags, for
turning pages to text-only, can be used.
"... what is the point of Photo-3D if things are not discussed here?"
Discussion indeed, but original text should remain the main content
in my opinion, without _too_ much quoted content.
