George,
I recently put myself through your type of situation.
I was at an auction where quite a number of scrapbooks
were put up for sale. This was just a normal auction of
household item, nothing unique. The scrapbooks were
sold as choice, take as many as you want. Several bidders
picked through them and picked out about 20 that had lots
of war photos. I bought the rest when they were grouped
as a lot. I bought them for resale.
After looking through them and seeing how well someone
had documented a family history (There were children), I
decided that there was plenty of info to find someone of
this family. I spent many hours spread over several days
trying to find a lead. No luck. Still have the books. I haven't
been able to convince myself to sell them. I hope to put a
notice on the net somewhere and let an interested party find ME.
Good luck with your issue. I vote that you sell them. As long
as they are with a collector they should be quite safe.
