I was wondering about that myself - the fact it's during
the war years also seems like it might be significant. I wonder
if it was easier to get glass slide material than the celluloid/
plastic film based materials - since glass was heavy and fragile,
it would probably have been around on the home front more than
thoses camera needing film for aerial recon or dragging around
in foxholes...
