P3D View-Master Plant Closure

Hello

I learned yesterday from my friends at View-Master that
the Beaverton, Oregon plant will be completely shut down
at the end of July.

The film developing will go to Seattle where Mattel has
a facility that is making the new VM pocket viewer.  (Will
have info about this viewer on my web site soon.)
The reel making machines are being moved to Mexico and
will be subject to Mexican quality control:(

This is indeed a blow to those of us who love the product
and have fond memories of all of the years the plant was
located in Portland.  The 1989 NSA tour of the plant will
surely live in everyone's memory as a highlight.  

Although the company has gone through 5 different owners,
no on imagined the day that the plant would completely
disappear.  When it was first built it was in the middle
of a farmer's field.  Now, it is in the middle of Washington
Park -- one of the area's biggest, busiest shopping and
business areas.

I can only say that I bid a fond adieu' to this famous
facility and it's world-renowned water tower.
