I HAVE seen this at the two NSA stereo theaters I have been to. As 
I stated in my reply to Bob, I understand why this is done. The 
screens there are big.

However, in home and club projection and exhibition judging I don't 
see a reason to not have it at the screen. I believe that the 
placement of the window can have an effect on the look of an 
image. The more precise the mounting and the less manipulation of 
the projector the better.
