Actually, you can scan them in just about anything. The trick is to have an
ordinary slide mount widened slightly so that you can see up to the
sprockets (that gives you more to work with on the digital side).
I use the Polaroid slide mounts which allow me to remove the chip
when I'm done.
I prefer scanning chips outside of their 3d mounts because mounts cover
part of the image. Many pictures are not improved by chipping away at
their perimeters :-)
BTW -- the HP Photosmart becomes is an inexpensive scanner that works
well. It's just HPs software that is so miserable. Try the freeware program
PScan32. PScan 32 makes it easier to scan long film strips without having
to slice up the images.
