Although I understand the thinking behind this statement, I do not agree
that people will extrapolate "that this is the best that this medium can do"
because:

1) MOST people who see this issue will think it was a "cool" additional
feature. They do not have years of experience to weigh into their judgement
of it. For what it is, it is VERY well done, and will in fact impress most
people.

2) MOST people do not know how 3D works, and have no idea that they could do
it themselves without any special equipment. This is all almost "magical" to
them.

3) The Mars Pathfinder anaglyph images pulled in millions of web site
visitors, and people couldn't get enough. Anaglyph glasses sold like hot
cakes back then. Some of those images STUNK TO HIGH HEAVEN, but, they were
3D images of something you don't get to look at very often, and that
interested people. Same goes for this issue of SI.

Let's not forget that there is a great deal of difference between the
general population and our little world of 3D enthusiasts. Yes, there are
things that could have been done better or differently, but in reality, we
all know why things were done the way they were done.

That's my 2 cents worth on the subject. =)
