May be in past anaglyphs didn't get great popularity: in my teens I hated
those monochromatic images, because most of them were quite ugly: just
darkroom masters could make such things, so most anaglyphs I saw in those
years were merely exercises of technique and skill.
Now full-colour anaglyphs by computer are a fast & easy job, so expression
is free from the hobbles of particular skills. They have become the
cheapest, fastest & eaiest way for 3d info to circulate, in the web or in
printed matter.
Nevertheless today no medium can become popular if it doesn't comply with
TV, and sadly I must admit 3d still doesn't. This week I've been trying in
PAL several kinds of anaglyph, and sometimes got good 3d effect, but sadly
my 3d anaglyph videos were ALWAYS "uglier" than they would have been in 2d.
I recently posted to this list about a magnificent 3d video in Pulfrich
format, but a few-minutes video costed hundred yards railway & many hours of
helicopter, long accurate planning and days afterwork... too much!
I believe shutter glasses are too tricky to be the future standard &
today-available shutter screens aren't better, bcause they can't be viewed
by than more than 1 user at time. May be something hasn't yet been invented!
