With all the discussion of knots in 4 dimensions and 3d conversions of
Escher drawings, I was reminded of something I thought of trying but never
got around to: Setting up a studio shot wih a curved background so there
was no floor to wall line to give away the trick, but having various
objects like tables etc in the set to give it a scene. Then have person
standing out of the image field but lit so they are casting a hard shadow
onto the background. Take the frame, shift the camera for the second frame,
and at the same time shift the light on the model so the shadow moves, and
shoot the second frame. The idea is to move the shadow between the two
images so it is standing in space in the final stereopair. Should work in
theory. Whether or not I can put it into practice is still up in the air.
If the weather is nasty this weekend, maybe I give this a try with a
tabletop miniature set up.
