I might note that from time to time I've thought about switching
over to a format for the calcite archives which would allow
threaded message reading and so forth, but the main problem was/is
that the software implementations I've looked at to do this require
one directory entry (inode for you Unix/Linux types :-) for each
message. This eats up disk space in a hurry when you are looking at
25,000+ messages. So using webglimpse appears to be a reasonable
alternative between compactness and accessibility. Being as
As Calcite is basically a "junk machine" here at the college, there's
not much opportunity for upgrades except for the support of a few
very kind people here who have made equipment donations from time to time.
