In digest 3776, M Pauck writes, in part:

<< It was - and still is - my hope that this archive will provide some
value to the community, i.e. the list itself but also other interested
parties, as there is a lot of valueable information and knowledge in
 there, waiting to be shared.

However, if the list members have considerable concerns regarding
privacy issues than it's probably best to take the archive off the
 Web.

 Some more opinions? >>

In my humble opinion, the Pauck archives are a real benefit and a valuable
service. They have been available for some time now, and I really don't
think that any recent increase in spam can be definitively attributed to
them. It is through the Pauck archives that I became familiar with the IR &
pan lists*, which I can access & benefit from without having to bother with
subscribing to. I would hate to see them go.

FWIW, I have not percieved any recent increase in spam (touch wood). I have
several e-mail addresses, for different purposes. As an example, this on is
used exclusively for photographic correspondence. My Netscape free-mail
account attracts the most spam, followed by my Worldnet account. Perhaps AOL
is more agressive in their filtering....

* has ther been any increase in spam amongst the IR & pan list members? That
could be a good test....
