The Oakland club has a similar arrangement.  I don't understand
why you think they are "useless."  They are as useful as the
adjustment knobs AND allow the adjusters to do something
besides reach over and around the projector to do what tweeking
may be called for.

In a perfect world, stereo slides would be perfectly mounted, but
the world is imperfect.  Why make it inconvenient too?

I might add that a series of grossly mismounted slides is an
opprtunity to mention, teach and schedule (yet ANOTHER) "Mounting
Workshop."
