I've heard an interesting story about this - Apparently Lucas wanted
to use Barbie in Toy Story I but Matel dummied up and wouldn't agree
without an outrageous licensing fee. That seems to have been solved
in Toy Story II :-)

Same thing on E.T. - apparently the original thought was to use
M & M's in the story, but no deal could be reached so Recees's 
Pieces (sp?) were used instead. 

I'd be curious to know whom wouldn't pay the price to whom on these
sorts of things. Right offhand I'd think it would be insane for
a company not to get product placement in a Speilberg or Lucas
film if it were offered...
