In the ongoing discussion Linda Nygren adds:

<<... the only one they actually have is a Nikon for $68, and they couldn't
tell me whether it was suitable for *simultaneous* firing of two cameras
or not. The Olympus releases are "out of stock", presumably permanently. >>

Nikon has made several versions of a dual release, including one with a
mechanical plunger (for the front standard of their PB-6 Bellows, to stop
down the lens) at one end and the other an electrical fitting for the motor
driven camera bodies. I am not surprised that they didn't know how suitable
it might be. Most mail order people (shoot, most retail people regardless of
industry) are just clerks, with no technical or product knowledge.

I took the liberty of calling Olympus today (1-800-O-CAMERA). I was assured
that their "Dual Cable Release for Bellows" (that is its official name, part
number 104-110) is in stock at their Woodbury warehouse, and is in current
production, but they don't keep many in this country as they are not big
sellers. It has a list price of $52.00, but your local dealer may offer a
discount (assuming that they are regular Olympus dealers to start with*).
I'd think that $40.00 or $45.00 would be pretty fair, especially since I've
done all the leg work for them**. IMHO, given the number of years since
Olympus have agressively pursued the sophisticated SLR market, it is a
miracle they have any at all.

Mamiya also offers a dual release. It enables the mirror lock up function on
the RB/RZ cameras. I quote:

"The perfect tool to prevent even the slightest camera shake during
slow-shutter-speed
exposures; one cable connects to the camera body's shutter release, the other
to the mirror-up switch. When
the release is pressed, the mirror-up operation activates first, followed by
operation of the shutter. Very useful
for both close-up and telephoto applications. Cat. #213-461. Weight: 3.2 oz.,
90 g. "

9. There is a picture, too.)

Sorry, I forgot to check pricing on the Mamiya unit.

I have been able to find two telephone numbers for Mak Pacific, the last
known importer/distributor of Rowi products to the US market. Both the toll
free number and the regular exchange are answered by voice-mail machines, but
so far no one has returned my messages.

*support your local dealers before the Big Mail Order houses kill them all.
Walk in with this e-mail in hand and offer them money. If they are too
stupid to accept it they deserve to die....

**let them order it with their next regular order of point & shoots or
whatever. Don't make them drop everything & try to order one by
itself...unless you are willing to pay the shipping! Lets all be reasonably
mature about this.
