I hope we're not getting too far off the topic of 3D by
discussing a *general* photography issue, but:

I'm curious about how exposures are determined using multiple
flashes like this. Being lazy, I'd want to use automatic
flash units as the slaves and depend upon each unit's own
automatic metering of what it is flashing at to determine
the right amount of light. Of course this would assume limited
overlapping of light on one subject from more than one
flash.
If I were going to do 'light painting', again I'd want to use
the auto exposure on the flash, rather than manually trying to
position the flash at a fixed distance from the subject for
each discharge.
Is this indeed the technique that is being used by youse cavers?
