[photo-3d] Slide Bar Experiments

Today I tried out the Bogen Slide Bar that DrT has waxed euphoric
about on his web site. After shooting 16 of 18 possible pairs, I
realized I should have marked the slide bar about halfway between the
2 and 3/4 inches I had set aside as the distance for the 2 positions. I
made the mistake of using the right side for viewing. Oh well... live
and learn. Add more moving parts, make more mistakes. There is a bridge
replacement project going on in my area and I thought this would make a
good large stationary object to test the sliding bar technique. Of course
I had to time it so that the trucks would move out of the picture before
snapping of a pair. I also have to wonder about small movements of
other things like dust and so forth. Seems to me that the sliding bar
routine would best be served with controlled subjects in a controlled
environment.
Anyone on here used larger SLRs to twin? I am told that this is not
a good approach as the cameras are too far apart for proper stereo.
