Dorothy,
I live in Italy, and I bought my videos on ebay, so I can't help you very
much.
recent videos (the mask, love can build a bridge) should be available from
any record or video store. If you don't find them in your local stores, try
online (even Amazon.com).
As far as I know, "the Mask" needs LCD glasses, so it's unsuitable for big
audience, unless you have stereo-theatre facilities.
Anaglyph movies work poorly in TV, so you've better looking for some old
super8 or 16mm anaglyph films, unless your budget allows you to rent a movie
for polarized projection, together with the projection lens & silver screen.
Pulfrich should work better for low-budget school shows (you just need the
specs, and students could even craft them) but the only acceptable (indeed
it's VERY good) long Pulfrich sequence I know is in the Judds' "love can
build a bridge" VHS cassette. You can trust me, because I never heard about
the Judds before and I'm not a US country music fan (I'm 100% italian, and
I've never been in the US).
if you choose the Judds' video, you can trespass the 1st half (just "cult"
in 2d) and go to the second, where they show how the 3d clip was made, and
the clip itself.
Let me suggest a few reflections for your students:
1. Q:"why did they choose Pulfrich?" A:"because one can enjoy it both in 2d
or 3d: it's an ordinary 2d movie you can see in 3d by wearig glasses. other
today-available affordable 3d standards are un-viewable without goggles".
2. Q."why do glasses not only allow 3d vision but also increase sharpness?"
A:"because you fuse 2 different full frames, so you perceive twice the
original pixels".
3. Q."why Pulfrich 3d is so seldom used?" A:"because it's unversatile, it's
expensive and difficult to do. The Judds' VHS shows the long and careful
plannig, the hundres yards railway and the helicopter... you can also
imagine the long afterwork, needed to mix all the lot pof short sequences.
Aside of "good" eye-resting but expensive Pulfrich, it's easy to find "bad"
cheap Pulfrich (mostly used in porn productions). In "bad" or "cheap"
Pulfrich the camera is given a ceaseless circular panning around the scene,
so they spare expensive afterwork, but they also drive the audience
sea-sick..."
