True enough about Kodachrome II. None of the rest of
the Kodachromes that have come out since then have
been as good for contrast. Kodachrome 200 comes close
for color, but not quite. I do like having the extra speed
in the 64 and the 200--even if Kodachrome II were still
available I'd use the faster ones a lot of the time--kids and
a lot of other things just won't hold still, and there are a lot
of dark places where I take pictures (don't like flash at all).
I've used some Kodachrome 25 and have one particularly
spectacular scenery shot--have a roll in my bag right now
to try again this summer. I'm sure it is going to give the
best stereo effect for more distant shots, and I especially
want to use it for some hypers of scenery.
I stay on the lookout for what might work if Kodachrome
disappears altogether. From what I'm hearing the Provia
100F sounds closest. But what I really hope is if Kodak
quits then somebody else will pick up the rights and keep
making it--it's too good just to vanish from the scene.
I would pay double the current price just to keep using it.
