I'm VERY INTERESTED as to where you got the ASA 8 Kodachrome! I can't find anything slower than ASA 64 in most places.
Are you sure you were using ASA 8 speed film? Maybe you were using something faster, hence why it got overexposed.
Either memorize and follow the chart Grant Campos gave you or buy a lightmeter, figure out how to use it and set your shutter speed and aperature to what it says..
Film is very very different from how it was fifty years ago!
