Stereoscope sets a world record price.

A highly decorative Brewster-pattern stereoscope set a new world record
price for a  stereoscope at Christies South Kensington in London in May.
The hand-held stereoscope and it's matching card box sold for GBP 56,400
($85,164) to a private collector bidding on the telephone against a second
telephone.

The stereoscope and card box were each decorated in gilt and red and green
paint on a black lacquer base.  Each was mounted with an oval porcelain
plaque and probably dated from the late 1860's.

Christie's hold two specialized auctions a year of stereoscopes and other
viewers and the next takes place on 23 November 2000.  Entries are invited
