[photo-3d] Stereo Digital Panoramics

One of the features on the new Olympus C-3030 camera is panoramic. This
allows up to 10 images to be stitched into one long image. In this mode,
vertical lines appear about 1/10 of the way in from each side. You then
rotate the camera on a tripod this exact amount and take a series of
pictures which are saved with some extra info that helps with the
reconstruction.
I have standardized on 600 x 2000 pixels as the size for display or
printing. You can get a nice 180 degree photo into this format. For
stereo, you use the Dr. T Bogen/Manfroto slide bar and take two sets of
images. Then after stitching them together using the Olympus "Camedia"
program, you place one over the other using Adobe Photoshop or Corel
PhotoPaint. You then print out the pair on legal size 8.5 x 14" paper and
view it with the VueMagic over/under viewer.
To view on the screen, you change your resolution to 1200V x 1600H and just
view the image. You can see half of it at a time and scroll right/left
using the elevator bar at the bottom of the screen. To use the full screen
with no toolbars at top or bottom, use VuePrint or VuePro in the full
screen mode instead of a browser like Netscape/IE EXplorer.
I will be posting an example on e-groups files, and on the StereoNE web
page soon. This all came about because of the NSA convention and a planned
trip to the grand canyon. The included 16Meg smart media card can hold 66
shots in the SQ2 mode at 768 x 1024 pixels. At 4 shots per 180 deg view,
this is enough for 8 stereo panaramics before having to download to a
laptop and erase the card. Larger cards are available up to 64Meg.
