I do not know about other service bureaus, but when I checked 
they would not do slides unless it was at the time of 
developing.

And yes, they use a drum scanner which means they do have to 
be removed from the mount - that is probably why they only do 
it at the time of developing before they are mounted.

There are several local shops that will do drum scans for me, 
but the cheapest I have found is $15.00 a scan. Way out of my 
price range.
