About 6 months ago I moved my main camera from a Realist to a
Belplasca. I'm pretty happy with it, although it won't solve your
guessing the distance problem as it has no rangefinder. I've wondered
about an add-on rf that slips in the hot shoe, but in the meantime
I've gotten pretty handy with the hyperfocal table.

Besides a better lens, sharper images and wider frames, I like the
way the European format comes back on the filmstrip, I can go through
and cut off two pairs at a time which makes organizing and mounting
easier, and it's simple to cut between frames with scissors even for
a shaky-handed guy like me.

The downside, besides the cost, is the Belplasca isn't as
mechanically simple and sturdy as the Realist, you'll still want to
carry the Realist around for whacking muggers.
