Except for splitters (Pentax ones anyway) being so spendy, I'd agree for
the reasons mentioned.  I started with a Pentax splitter mumble mumble
years ago!  Oh-oh!  I just blew it didn't I?  Proof that's not 
the way to go?  :-)
