Good question! My guess is that our knowledgeable friend
is referring to previous discussions from the thread
that started with Boris' questions regarding macro lenses,
systems, etc. Boris mentioned that manufacturer's macro
lenses are very expensive and he was looking for less
expensive alternatives. A number of ideas were thrown
around... reverse rings, etc., etc. I take it that
"you get what you pay for" means go with the more
expensive macro lenses.
And I tend to agree with that. A used macro Pentax
lens cannot be very expensive. I would stay with the 50mm
FL (not 100). Pentax made a 50mm/f4.0. Lightweight,
compact and very good optically.
When I got my Minolta X700 some 12 years ago, after much
thought I decided to get the 50mm/3.5 lens instead of the
standard normal lens. That took a lot of guts because
the lens was more expensive than the body. But I am very
glad I did that because this is the lens I used the most
for the next 12 years. Nothing beats the convenience
and optical performance of a good macro lens, IMO.
