No, actually it's a serious suggestion (I know, what're the odds?  :-)  ).

To get the best effect, you want to minimize the conflicting cues that are
telling you the screen is flat.  Covering one eye will definitely help.
Also, when looking through a pinhole, your eye doesn't have to focus on the
screen; as in a pinhole camera, it increases your depth of field, so your
ocular lens can relax (i.e. focus father away) & still keep the screen in
focus.  Another way to achieve this would be to wear about a +2 pair of
reading glasses.  This is assuming you still have your accommodation, i.e.
it wouldn't apply to most people older than 45 or so.  Also, with a pinhole
you'll probably hide the rest of the stuff around the image (the monitor
frame, etc.) that's telling you it's a flat screen.

For anyone who's been on the list a while, the latter are two of the
principles behind Ken Dunckley's (sp?) 3-DVG thingy.
