I don't normally take pictures of people. I hate having my picture
taken, and in order to extend to people the courtesy I wish they would
show me I don't take a picture of someone without their explicit
permission. This tends to rule out spontaneous snapshots and candids.

I do think snapshots are important. They document your life. One of
the big reasons I got my wife an Olympus point&shoot a while ago was
so that she could take the snapshots I don't, so that we would have a
family history to pass along.

Having said that, the last really good picture I took with my Sputnik
before accidently mangling one of the pressure plates is of my three
year old nephew at a Christmas party at my parent's home last
December. Turn on the flash, point the camera, focus, shoot, wind.

A Sputnik on a flash bracket with a decent flash (I was using a Pentax
AF280T, but I'm thinking of getting a Vivitar 285 for more control)
makes a great point&shoot stereo camera. Turn on the flash and set
its mode, set the Sputnik's aperture to match the flash, set the
Sputnik's shutter speed to its fastest setting, and you're ready to
go.

The Sputnik with a flash is much easier to deal with than without a
flash.
