I understand this completely. Since I work with a couple 3D modeling
software companies, and often talk with those people about using 3D
(their meaning) software to generate 3D (my meaning) pictures, the
confusion is constant. I end up adding dozens of words to each
sentence to make sure my meaning is clear.
It makes it no easier that the word "stereo" has similarly been
co-opted by the audiophiles. So "stereo video" is mistaken for
stereophonic, etc.
Say what you will about Viewmaster, but people know what it is.
