Good question. It's crystal clear to me :-)

I suspect that "3D" has been so corrupted that the exact meaning has
become unclear that this point to many people. The problem is that
the "world" exists as 3D models in the machine, but is displayed
as only "2D" on monitors (ie, the world is flattened, to borrow
a term from Photoshop, not to mention roadkill).

Photo as a descriptive term can be found in computer graphics as images
can be classified as "photorealistic" - that is, they look as if they
had been produced on a real, physical camera.

The confusion factor is so large, especially for non-native English
speakers, that sometime ago I stopped approving subscription attmempts
from several domains where the confusion appears particularly bad. If
the subscriber drops me a note directly to inquire, then I can find out
if the list is really what they are interested in.

To date, there have probably been perhaps 30 of these, and only two that
I recall actually confirmed that the list topic was what they thought
it would be.

Getting constant subs/unsubs is a real time waster if someone only stays
on 24 hours, as I have to approve the subs and get notice of the unsubs.
While it's possible to turn these off, I like to keep track of what's
happening.

Incidentally, I plan on closing out the name poll probably tomorrow
evening. I'll mail everyone the results.

THANKS
