Well put, George. Were I attending the NSA convention in Mesa, as one who is
just now becoming interested in the MF aspects of 3D photography (while
retaining my continued use of my Realist), I would find a workshop in that
application to be most interesting and informative. Would the personal
preferences of the instructor as to format -- expressed or implied -- affect m
y personal preference of format? No more so than my high school English
teacher's preference for novels affected my preference for science. It might
be wiser not to overestimate our power of influence on the thinking of a few
than to deprive others of the technical knowledge that we are able to share
for their general benefit.
Shortly after buying (starting the monthly payments) this house in San Diego
County, I attended a Landscaping class that lasted for several weeks. During
the course of the class, the question came up about landscaping with
indigenous plants (an idea that I favored). The instructor, a landscape
contractor, emphatically protested their use, declaring them to be too
unattractive to be practical: I disagreed with him. Now, several years
later, native plants (draught resistant) are more in demand for landscaping
than he could ever have imagined. In this, we have a utilitarian
practicality that changes with the La Ninas/El Ninos; and, I imagine,
utilitarian practicalities determine, for the most part, the use of the MF
camera or the Realist -- where one has a choice; i.e., the person taking the
pictures will decide for himself/herself after having politely listened to
the workshop instructor.
