I agree, excellent article, although he could have made it scarier! :-)
What I mean is, when you get down to the nitty gritty, it is ridiculous,
the lengths multinationals will go to "protect" their supposed
intellectual property rights. The laws are not structured or
implemented to protect the Boris's of this world, but rather the
multinational interests. No problem there, if they weren't so
hypocritical. For example they profess that they want a world economy,
but yet introduce regional DVD's! In anycase, it's not the copyright
perse that is the issue but the "fair use" of these copyrights.

Regarding "fair use", they would have you paying to use your word
processor by either how many characters you typed, time used, or other
clever money making scheme. This is not future implementation, but
is happening today. I forget where I read this, so I can't quote
the article, but it was in a respected trade magazine. They tried
this with DVD (limited viewing sessions), but was short lived.

Further to the discussion of "fair use", you think Dr.T pushed
the envelope with remounting some of Boris's fine images, what about
lending your friends your music CD or videotape? Alot of the ones
I have, restrict you from even lending them out!!! I've seen books
with these kind of restrictions also. I wonder if anyone on this
list would blindly follow these crazy restrictions.

Now making a feeble attempt to make this 3-D related, imagine paying
a fee for per 3-D image created using an anaglyph or interlacing
program! Or let's say you become really good at this and start doing
for a living. You would be violating the licencing agreements of
some software. Some software restrict your use of it for personal
use only and can't be used for commercial purposes. You would have
to get a commercial licence. Imagine if that was the case with a
word processor or a hammer! Use the hammer for home, no problem,
use it as a carpenter, your in trouble.

P.S. Crazy post for a crazy subject!

P.P.S. Sorry if I'm starting to sound like someone else, who shall
go nameless.

Let he who is without copyright sin cast the first stone!

Gabriel (no I didn't write that, but appropriately fair used it!)
