I believe the parameter you're referring to is "dynamic range."  Your scans
look great.   Do you find a big difference in the professional scans you've
gotten when having Photo CDs made versus what you can achieve on the
Micro-tek?   I've been working a lot recently with scanning View-Master
reels on my Epson 1200 Photo scanner.   I feel like I'm able to get all of
the detail that's present in the reels, although when greatly enlarging
contrasty areas I notice faint lines similar to scanning lines on a
