[photo-3d] Prints from slides digitally

A few months ago I noticed a marked improvement in the sharpness of the
prints I was getting from the local Moto-Foto. I discovered that they had
installed a Fuji Frontier 370, a mini-lab that scans negatives and makes
prints from the digital files. The 370 can also make prints from slides,
and I just had my first batch done. These are the best prints from slides
I've gotten to date, and are a big improvement over inter-neg processes I've
seen. The set-up charge per slide was $2.50, with subsequent prints at the
normal rate. I also had a CD made of the scans - the files are plus or
minus 700K JPEGs measuring 1824 X 1226 pixels. I'm going to try editing the
scans into aligned monolithic prints and see how those come out. I also
brought some Realist format 41 X 101 stereo slides in; they gave me that
"deer in the headlights" blank stare. I hope to find someone out there
with one of these units who will be able to scan and print from stereo
slides. Since I like to create both slides and prints I've often been torn
between using transparency or negative film. I'll be able to stick with
slide film from now on. Jim Harp
