Wow, that's exactly what I was planning on writing! You see,
I don't actually project many slides and don't get a chance
to see many slide shows other than at NSA conventions. One
of the things I learned at this convention is the importance
of good narration!
Even at the convention, as much as I would have loved to, I
didn't get a chance to see all the NSA stereo presentations.
Of the few that I did manage to get to see, "Reflections on
a Golden Age" really caught my attention! The images were
not that interesting, but the narration had me spellbound.
After the show, the credits mentioned David Burder had put
it together and that explained the polished and professional
presentation, at least in my mind.
Another stereo slide show that impressed me was Mark Kernes
"Baxxxstage." This show documented the making of porn movies.
The footnote in the NSA calendar warned, "This show contains
explicit sexual imagery for adults only." And it actually did!
Now I'm not a great fan of xxx porn movies, as much as I love
the female figure! I was going into this expecting something
along the lines of mediocre story lines, where the story line
is an after thought to the visual eye candy of mindlessly
exploited female bodies (in degrading sex acts, I might add!).
What struck me with Mark's presentation was he didn't let the
graphic sexual 3-D images carry on their own but rather also
narrated the whole show with his candid and refreshing
aspirations and background of the actors/actresses as human
beings! After the show, he gave a short talk of his background
and fielded questions from the audience like a polished
professional that he apparently was.
Some of the other slide shows had very interesting images but
didn't work well. This was because they were either too long
or had very similar images. I believe these shows would have
been more palatable if they had some narration (some just had
music, which is fine if it will carry the show by itself) or
interesting narration.
