DrDave,
I cannot find the words to thank you enough for your
help and encouragement with the RBT/Spicer mounting
method.
Seeing now easy it was, I decided to try it last
night. Within a matter of seconds I cut 3
templates (Realist, 7p, 31.5 Wide) and I was up
and running.
I spent a good part of the evening mounting and
continued this morning. I must have mounted 100
pairs so far. I think I will spend the rest of the
week mounting and will continue in New York next
week until I finish a backlog of several years.
(Note: These slides are temporarily -no tape-
mounted in Albion mounts and now I am transferring
permanently in Spicer mounts.)
The say "the devil is in the details". While I was
aware of the basic idea, seeing the details in your
demonstration helped a lot. It is nice that the chips
are mounted face up in the RBT templates and then
just flipped and taped in the front side of the
Spicer mounts.
This method is very quick. The only tricky part is
to make sure that the RBT mount is alined with the
Spicer mount apertures. If you just push the RBT
mount over the 90 degrees bent Spicer mount, this
alignment is usually automatic. The few instances
where some attention is needed include the cases
where a "reduced height" Spicer mount is used and
the cropping needs to be at the top.
To check the alignment I am using the SAM. I have
replaced the top cover with a plain cover and use
it as a light table. Before taping the chips in
place I can flip over SAM's lenses and check the
alignment. In a few cases I taped the chips with
some vertical error. I then untaped only one
chip and mounted "freehand" by floating the other
one while observing stereoscopically.
While I will continue using RBT mounts to mount
slides for projection, I will use Spicer mounts
to mount the rest (80-90%).
Once again, thank you for your help. Your live
demonstration was extremely helpful. As a
certified (?) student, I will repeat your
demonstration for our stereo club early this year.
Your Faithful Student,
George Themelis
PS. I was planning to send this as personal email but
decided to cc the photo-3d list since others might
be interested on this subject.
