I too have recently used this method.  I have also placed my mounts in a
file folder and ironed across the mount.  The folder protects the film
chip from the bottom of the iron and the heat is about the same as a
projector would produce.  I use this on a  hardwood "TV tray" rather
than an ironing board because my wife's ironing board is padded.

I have also used a laminating machine with quite a bit of success.  I
position and tape the film chips and then place the mount in the
protective covering that comes with the laminating machine and run it
through.  Unfortunately, the laminating machine belonged to the company
I previously worked for and, since they're my previous employeer, I no
longer have access to the machine. Hence, the use of the iron mentioned
above.
