Yes, the problem is the size and shape of the mount, especially the
middle part between the chips,  vs that of the irons.  Theoretically
travel irons are narrower, so can go little further in  between the
chips. Unfortunately, newer travel irons seem to be wider, and older
ones often have poor temperature control. 

I recall reading on the list some time ago about a small (squarish?)
iron designed for straightening hair that is supposed to work well with
heat seals. I have thought about trying to locate one of these, but
haven't yet made a firm commitment to continue using heat seals (vs
Spicers).

I also plan to try making a heat sealer out of old Realist heat sealer
parts that is supposed to work on modern mounts. I just got the parts
and directions on modification from Tom Martin, and I don't know when I
will get around to actually working on it. -Linda
