If one has an Alps printer w/Dye-Sub mode (technically, actually
a pigment-Sub mode) it's actually decently photographic in that
mode (and not-so-good in other photo modes which I don't
use in mine, usually just dye-sub photos or text).
Alps has given up on the retail market, and gone back to OEM'ing,
their forte. Some may still be available in stores in the US, and
it's being sold by Okidata in various parts of the world (OEM'd
from Alps).
There are other dyesub printers around which are very good too,
but at quite a higher price premium than the Alps.
