Thank you, this is the image I remembered but I had never tried to cross
view it before, it is one of the best examples of "Wallpaper stereo" that I
have seen.
Cross viewed the stereo depth agrees with the other depth cues although
this realy only the diminshing size of the figures, it works parrallel but
is then pseudoscopic. I think their is a link with the "Wallpaper" effect
and the Panum phenomena which is exploited in the stereo mounting gigs we
use for slides, where one line is presented to one eye and two to the
other. Provided the pair are not to far apart initialy the second line is
fused as a displacement of the first producing the image at infinity.
